Here is an email we received on Monday, April 16, 2012:
I wanted to say a thank you to a couple of chaplains whose names I don't know. I was part of Virginia Tech's Chi Alpha group 5 years ago today when 32 of our community were killed by another member of our community. In the midst of our tragedy, chaplains from the AG came--offering the embodiment of Jesus in a time when presence was one of the most important things that could be offered to hurting, confused young people. Their gray heads stood out on a college campus and bespoke wisdom and experience--without any words being spoken. These men left their own lives and families for a few days and sat with us--giving us the chance to speak or not speak, bringing us water, prayer, help with what tasks there were. On the 5th anniversary of the shootings, I wanted to take a moment to let you know that your service matters--where ever it takes you.
Blessings,
