Areas of Chaplaincy

The different areas of chaplaincy have one thing in common: they represent a group of people that has a unique culture and shared experience. To excel as a chaplain, you need to understand the culture, experience, and needs of the community you serve. Understanding these things allows a minister to connect with people who might otherwise be closed to receiving the love of Christ.

Our vision is to commission Spirit-empowered chaplains to offer a compassionate presence in their communities, to provide for the needs of community members, and share the transforming love of God.

The impetus to become a chaplain began stirring nearly three decades ago when Brewer sought his doctorate in seminary while on staff at Tiffany Fellowship in Kansas City. "I took a unit in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) that revealed my inadequacy in doing hospital ministry," Brewer recalls. "I learned to value the sacredness of everyone's story."

“I used to believe that ministry was all about filling the pews in the church. Becoming an endorsed chaplain opened my eyes to see that we are tasked with reaching our community for Christ, not just filling pews on a Sunday morning.”
